Dyscalculia Consulting Services

One-to-one Guidance with a Dyscalculia Specialist

Navigating the world of dyscalculia can feel similar to hiking an unknown trail, without a map, a guide, or any sense on where to go, or what you will encounter along the way.

If your child has a new dyscalculia or math learning disability diagnosis, you may feel overwhelmed, unsure how to sort through the noise of information, and anxious about the future holds for your child.

If you are a family who has been searching for answers for years, you likely feel disappointed and helpless about the things tried and failed.

As a dyscalculia specialist and fellow parent of a child with dyscalculia, I help families get started in the right direction, equip them with the knowledge and proper gear they need, and help them navigate the ups and downs along the way of their learning disability journey.

Through one-to-one consulting and in small groups, I provide personalized, knowledgable, and experienced guidance for each family and child.

I want you to experience more understanding, calm, and confidence in this dyscalculia journey so that you can successfully advocate for your child.

Laura M. Jackson - parent of a dyscalculic child, dyscalculia specialist, math learning disability consultant, and author of the book, Discovering Dyscalculia (2022).

School Support for Dyscalculia

Dyscalculia Consulting | for Parents

Establishing appropriate school supports is a critical step in helping your dyscalculic child succeed. Most parents make the mistake of assuming the school will know how to provide dyscalculia support, and are soon disappointed and frustrated when their student continues to struggle academically and emotionally, despite receiving “help” at school.

Students continue to struggle, even with IEPs and 504s in place, because the U.S. school system does not know how to adequately support them. Until our education system catches up, parents must become experts on dyscalculia so that they can effectively advocate for their children in schools.

That is why I am here! I want to help you become a strong and confident advocate for your child, so they can be better supported and empowered in their education!

What we will accomplish together

  1. Confidently make important decisions on your child’s school supports and math education.

  2. Work with school to establish the best education plan for your child. Include math interventions, learning goals, in-class support, or accommodations for Individual Education Program (IEP) in public school, Student Learning Plans (SLP) at private school, and 504 Accommodations.

  3. Establish dyscalculia accommodations and supports in ALL classes (not just math). Effectively communicate with teachers to provide dyscalculia education, resources, and advocacy for your child.

  4. Help ease your child’s anxiety by making changes to everyday school tasks and situations that cause unnecessary stress.

Dyscalculia Consulting | for Parents

Parents choose to homeschool their children for many reasons. My journey with home-schooling my daughter for math was because I could not find adequate dyscalculia math support and education in the school systems.

If you are experiencing any of these common situations, this is for you:

  • You homeschool a child with a math learning disability, or your child is in school but you want to help improve their understanding for numbers at home after school.

  • Your child is resistant, distracted, overwhelmed, or avoidant of math work.

  • Your child is not making the progress you’d expect in math.

  • You dread working on math with your child each day.

  • You wonder if your curriculum is the right choice, and face decision-fatigue every time you search for something else. Or you’ve tried so many curriculums and nothing seems to work.

  • You are tired of the struggle, and feel discouraged.

  • You are baffled by what your student doesn’t understand and why they can’t remember what was taught the day before.

  • You may be dyscalculic yourself and have no idea how to help.

What we will accomplish together:

  1. Begin teaching math in a way that connects for your child. Use written-for-you lesson plans and games/activities based on books and materials from dyscalculia experts.

  2. Learn more about the successful strategies and teaching methods for dyscalculia. Gain a deeper understanding of your child’s learning disability struggles, the reasons behind the challenges, and why these foundational methods support them.

  3. Establish a different experience of learning math and numbers in your home. Rewrite how math homework and classwork goes in your home by together exploring the intriguing experience of dyscalculia and its impact on numbers and quantity.

  4. Help ease your child’s anxiety by making changes to their experience with numbers, provide engaging math games and activities that they will be more eager to play. Your deeper understanding of them as a dyscalculic learner, will be the greatest help in easing their anxiety!

It was so helpful to talk with someone who truly “gets it.”
— M
I can’t begin to tell you how helpful it is to talk with someone after all of this time who understands what you’ve been going through so much they can finish your sentences. Hugely relieving.
— C
My daughter was diagnosed with dyscalculia. It was during my desperate Google searches for answers that led me to Laura’s blog. Her story is so inspiring and has helped me become a more informed parent. Laura brings a wealth of information, and is an incredible resource to anyone in this journey. Laura is genuine, informative and truly passionate to help others and bring awareness.
— B
This workshop was so helpful to me, both for the information shared AND for the connection to other parents going through the same thing. Laura has done an excellent job corralling resources and I am so grateful we found her!
— M
Both my husband and I found this class incredibly helpful, we felt that it gave us valuable insight in how to help and understand our child better. We have used what we learned to advocate our child’s case to our school and really able to help our child in the best way and let go of things that we suspected were not working but it was nice having that validation confirming with actual facts that are not helpful. I am eternally grateful to have found Laura. The classes were very well organized, perfect for working parents to fit into their schedule, and well-structured with many resources.
— L
Laura has really done her homework. What a wonderful resource to share with parents struggling to understand their child’s diagnosis.
— M
We wanted you to know how much we enjoyed the course and how helpful it has been... Thanks again for everything you did to support our family and others. It was so nice to find some hope and support in this journey even though we are early on this path!
— S
I just want to let you know how much I appreciate all that you have done and are doing to support families that are impacted by dyscalculia. We are still very early in our journey but the resources you have put together here have truly been invaluable. I have learned so much and feel much better equipped to figure out how to move forward. Hearing your daughter’s story has given me hope that my daughter can thrive with the appropriate interventions.
